The Great Flag Debate
June 22nd, 2010 by Brad
The flag debate has been an issue for years and it’s starting to pop up again and there are people on both sides of the argument. People have tried to change the flag in the past, but not many people agreed back then. Now things have changed and it’s swinging back and forth and the country’s split in two those who want to keep the flag and those who want to change it.
Some passionately think we should change the flag. Many us to become a republic but if we become a republic we will be forced to change the flag. It is too much like New Zealand’s flag. If you were to look at a New Zealand flag and an Australian flag from thirty metres most wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. The Australian flag is supposed to mean that we are welcoming of all people but our image is beginning to change because there are racist attacks in Melbourne and if you take an Australian flag overseas some people might think you are also racist.
The Australian Flag has been one of Australia icons for over 100 years and people respect the flag and show pride in being Australian. Also some of our ANZACs in the wars died under the flag and on Anzac day many proud Australians wave that flag in honour of the fallen soldiers. The Australian flag has served us well for over 100 years. A solution to the problem would be to change the Union Jack with the Aboriginal flag or the Boxing Kangaroo but, both are privately owned and unusable. We could change the flag but if we change it we’re stuck with it and not everyone will agree with the new flag.
whether we change the flag or not a very important question, it will take many years to find a flag we all agree with there are some strong arguments on both sides of the story if it were up to me the public would decide, but it’s not up to me the government if they chose the wrong side they will lose votes and the election.

Shaving Cream Spelling
December 13th, 2009 by Brad
Today we had our spelling test on our tables. We wrote with gray lead pencils on our table and had a spelling test. Of course we had to clean them but that was twice as fun. We rubbed shaving cream on the tables and drew pictures and wrote words before we rubbed it off and now they are spotless. All up the best spelling ever!!!

O.G.P.S. Swimming Day
November 15th, 2009 by Brad
Last friday O.G.P.S. had our swimming carnival at Geelong college. We have one every year and the four school houses compete for house points. The four houses are: Sturt, Mitchell, Flinders and Bass named after the famous explorers. I’m in Sturt we usaully lose, I was in the freestyle and backstroke, and in both I came last (what a surprise). After my events I was just watching but, shaun was being a loser because he was puching everyone. After lunch the relays were onand that’s when every one decides to watch the 8&9 year girls were first and bass won, then 8&9 year boys once again bass won, then 10 year boys bass again, but in the 10 year girls sturt won (finally), 11 year girls flinders won, 11 year boys sturt again 12 year girls bass won and 12 year boys sturt won (yay). over all mitchell finished 4th sturt finished 3rd flinders 2nd and what a surprise bass in first not the greatest day but still a day off school. the funniest thing of the day came in the relays, flinders were leading the race untill their final swimmer jumped into the pool with a bellywacker then started doing doggy paddle round and round in circles. one of the perants had to dive in after him

Brad’s poem
November 6th, 2009 by Brad
once I looked at a cloud
it looked stupid
all fluffy and proud
then it rained on me
a coupon fell for a discount
while I used it I got stung by a bee.

Maths about fractions with a ring to it….
November 5th, 2009 by Brad
Doughnuts, a very effective maths tool (now thats the way to get your kids to do maths) and without a doubt the most tasty. Today MR.K had us doing a maths exercise about fractions, not the best subject but you may change your mind when you throw some doughnuts in the mix and then its not so boring. MR.K put out 3 tables out in the front of the class room and the first table had 1 doughnut, the second had 2 and the third had 3. He chose 10 people to go out in the coridoor and wait for your turn each person would come down and sit at a table. At the end there would be some people sitting down behind the tables and you would divide the doughnuts into fractions and then eat them!!!!! yay. In my run I got three quarters of three doughnuts I had two quaters of chocolate and on quarter of strawberry and they were very very nice.
